Our History

The Gilbert Plains and District Community Resource Council was incorporated as such in February, 2003.  The Organization became a registered Charity on April 1st, 2005.

The first Board of GPDCRC consisted of:

  • Chair: Kim Dubek
  • Vice Chair: Marnie Beckley
  • Secretary: Donna Besselt
  • Treasurer: Gail Crossley
  • Member: Trudy Murray
  • Member: Sylvia Rozmarnowich

The first hired Coordinator was Marli Mazurkewich and the hours  were 9am - 3:30 Wednesday and Friday (12 funded hours a week)

The project began as an idea from Community Members.  At the request of the groups, the Services to Senior Coordinator for the Parkland Regional Health Authority made presentations to the Gilbert Plains Drop In Center and the Gilbert Plains Economic Development Board.  A feasibility study was done including a survey to see that the people wanted the service  A volunteer Board was formed and a grant application was submitted in February, 2003, which resulted in the Parkland Regional Health Authority agreeing to fund the salary for the coordinator who was then hired in November 2003.

The town of Gilbert Plains did supply the office space and start up money has been provided from the RM of Gilbert Plains as well as the Lions Club and H.O.P.E. Inc. Two of the program's long-term goals are to coordinate a Congregate Meal Program and  a Lifeline Program.

The grand opening of the resource council was held on Thursday February 5, 2004 in Inky Mark, Dauphin-Swan River MP cut the ribbon.
